Reworking the Resolution

Reworking the Resolution

2019 marked the end of a decade, and a new year always brings new possibilities, new hopes, and new chances to change your life. As the clock struck midnight, many of us made resolutions, with the intention of keeping them throughout the year, of course. While some may still be going strong, others may have strayed a little outside of the lines, and a few may have abandoned their resolutions entirely. We’ve all been there, so there’s zero judgment from us, but with that in mind, we tried to find some tricks to make resolutions a little more user-friendly.

Here are a few helpful tips to keep you on track in 2020.

Dream Big

Have one big, audacious goal on your list. New house, new car, get your dream job, run a marathon. Whatever BIG looks like to you, include one big goal for the year. The big goals will help you create a new routine, which may in turn spark a few more changes for the better.

Get an Accountability Partner

Teamwork makes the dream work, right? If you and a friend have similar goals this year, encourage and cheer each other on! Join them on the early morning runs or help them tighten up their interview skills. Encouraging each other will help each of you reach your goals that much faster.

Have a Reward System

Remember that glowing feeling you had as a kid when you checked all the good choices boxes and got to pick something out of the class treasure chest? This time, the reward can be that expensive pair of shoes or dinner out at a pricier restaurant. Rewards work! Mark off a calendar, drop a dollar in a jar, use buttons as a tracking system to track your progress. Once you’ve hit your goal, make sure to treat yourself.

Take Small Steps

Is your goal in 2020 to run a marathon? Start small with a one-mile run, then two, then gradually add a few more miles until you have reached the coveted 26.3 miles before your big run. Just like running a marathon, any resolution can be achieved if you break it up into small steps.

What are the tricks you use to stay on track with your resolutions?
